Packing Bearings
« on: 01/25/10 - 11:57PM »
I finally tgot my axle swapped but now i have to pack the bearings in it. In a Chrysler 8.25 how do you get to the bearings? do i have to take the whole thing apart? tht will really suck.

You don't pack bearings in semi-float rear axles, the gear oil is the lubricant.  Yes you have to take the axles out to view the bearings.

The axle bearing could be bad, brake dragging, etc.

Failed bearing...
Brake drag...
Rock/sand/grit in brakes. (I had a Ford Ranger that had some grit in the front brakes that did that.  I thought my bearing was going out, pulled the wheel off and was shaking everything around to find something loose and it fell out.)
I'd put something funny here, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway...
