Oil and Trans. skid plate
« on: 04/26/11 - 06:32PM »
I'M getting ready to purchase a skid plate to protect the trans and oil pan on my Wrangler Unlimited. Think I'M going with either Under Cover Fab skid or Skid-Row skid.

Leaning towards the under cover fab due to 1/4  inch plate. http://www.undercoverfab.com/aluminum-engine-skids/56--03-06-tj-lj-steel-engine-skid-plate-.html

Anyone have any preference or have a better option? Both of them cost too much!

I've run the Teraflex HD oil pan skid with great luck.  Bolts on easily and is well designed in my opinion.

However the one you listed looks well laid out as well to do both skids in 1.

Thanks for the reply Aaron, I really like that skid but I'M more worried about my trans pan and I can't find a good skid for just the trans.

I have the Under Cover Fab transfer case skid made out of .188" steel and it has held up pretty well. They were a new company when I got mine and didn't offer the .25" or the aluminum skids but I do like the sound of .25" material.

Ya when I ordered mine they were for jeeps with manuals so wasn't worried.  Now that I have a jeep with an auto I'll have to fab something up, haven't seen one for a jeep with a 4.3 & 350 turbo.

I like the light weight of the alum skid plate, but don't like the price! Nothing like adding more weight to the Jeep! I think the skid plate weigh's 35 pounds--plus I got a good deal on a Rough Country belly up skid plate which added some weight also!

well I ended up digging out an old warn skid plate I had for my 97 TJ, and my buddy Keith made some brackets and I bolted it on! It turned out really well and looks almost identical to a skid row skid plate---and mounts up the same way----best thing of all was the price---FREE!

Now on to the next project---upgrading the roll cage

I would like to have one of some sort. Anyone interested in making one? Not asking for free.
