I won a AM General Military 2.5 ton 6x6 at the government liquidation auction yesterday in Oklahoma. After speaking with some guys at the 4WD Jamboree I started to research these rigs. After a few evenings on the internet I discovered how valuable the Military Deuce can be. The second motor that came out in the Deuce was a multi-fuel diesel. The third version was a turbo charged version. After reading many forums I have discovered that many deuce owners are driving them around for about$.75 per gallon. Some less some more. They actually burn used oil, transmission fluid, cooking oil, among many other fluids as fuel. Some are cutting the fluids with unleaded fuel at a rate of 5-10 gallons per 55 gallon drum and others are running it straight. Its not too hard to find used oil here in springfield so I will definitely be able to keep the cost of fuel to a minimum.
I plan to modify the back to make it more street friendly. Many owners remove the rear axle and bob the bed. Average fuel mileage is 7-10 mpg in factory form. Modified (bobbed) deuces are getting anywhere from 10-15 mpg. One owner has a bobbed Deuce on 52" military tires and is getting a steady 13 mpg and on top of that his top speed is 70+.
Here are the pics and I will post more when I get it to the house.
