Tow Rig Opinions
« on: 11/ 4/08 - 04:47PM »
I'm curious what everyone is doing in the tow rig area.  Personally I'm trying to go back to a 1 ton tow rig from a 1/2 ton.  I know others are going the other way and some are going back to dual role jeeps instead of tow rigs.

So what are you all doing?  If you don't have a tow rig are you going to get one?  Why or why not?

Feel free to post pics of your tow rigs as well.

True... but wasn't it hard to find a shortbus that wasn't yellow?

My tow rig would be a 3/4 ton, but if I have to use it that means I probably f__ed something up on the JK.  =))

My tow rig is a 92 F250 4x4 extended Cab longbed with a 351, 5 speed manual and 410 gears. I am VERY pleased with it's performance; it beats the pants off of the 350 98 Suburban 4x4 that I had. I've never had anything greater than a 3/4 ton... I think it's perfect for pulling your rig. I guess if I was ever to pull 2 or more Jeeps on a regular basis, then a bigger truck would be warranted.. regardless I would go with a FORD.

We have a 1994 Siverado k3500 1 ton DRW, put a slide in camper on it and a 14' dove tail behind it for the Jeep.
Never know when you are breaking something you cant fix at a park, so we still have a ride home.

With the height and the weight dual wheels are a +, just a little swag on curves and windy days.

I have a 2001 Dodga 3500 Diesel. I love it for all aspects of towing. I have only had 10,000 lbs behind it but it stops and goes like theres nothing behind it.

I don't tow that much and can't justify diesel.

I've always used my Chevy Tahoe and my rusty green trailer. My work-in-progress is an '02 Ford E-350 box van, which I'm converting into a 'cowboy camper': shower/head, hot & cold water, custom gray water & black water holding tanks, 78 gallons each, generator & inverter, small fridge, minimal kitchen area and a fold-up bed, leaving me enough floor space for two of our 4-wheelers inside, and I can still pull our Jeep behind.  Now I just need to find another trailer since the co*#@%>$ers stole my last TWO car trailers!

Keith,

How do you like the 3/4 ton with the hemi. What kind of mileage do you get. I was thinking of going that way.
