Best location for hood vents.
« on: 09/ 9/09 - 08:15PM »
I am having the boat hood vents I bought put on tomorrow, and I want to know where is the best place to have them mounted.  I am trying to reduce the amount of rust from rain, and snow falling on my motor, but I need to know where would be ideal.  I am thinking about 2 inches in from the side bends in the hood, and about an inch from the back of the hood, but if someone has a better idea my ears are open, I am just looking for the most heat reduction I can get.

Here's the link for the vents, they look sharp: http://www.marinesurplusinc.com/servlet/Detail?no=844

Heres where I put my vents. They are located over the engine. If you put yours over the engine, you will want to make so sort of splash shield to catch the water that comes through them. This way your electronic parts don't get damaged. In your case locating them toward the outside edges of the hood is a good idea. They will still help air circulate through the engine compartment.
