Clearing the check engine light
« on: 09/23/08 - 10:22PM »
I would've sworn this has been covered before. Anybody know the RIGHT way to clear the check engine light on a 2002 TJ?

Google leads to nothing but to disconnect the battery. A) That shouldn't work and B) it can't be the right way.

Thanks,
Dave

Disconnecting the battery does work.  You have to let it set unhooked for about 30 minutes.  You might also try turning the key to the start position and hold it for 15 seconds while the battery is unhooked too.
I'd put something funny here, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway...

unhooked the battery  for a few minutes. then start and drive it for a few days and see  if the light come back on if it does go to oriellys or auto zone and they can scan it for the code so you will know what to do to fix it.
ps unhooking the battery just reset the comptuer the code still will show up when you get it scan.

Mopar stuff is said to be really picky about the gas cap.  You may be money ahead to get one from a dealer.
