time for new shocks
« on: 04/ 8/10 - 01:05PM »
its time to get some new shocks on my jeep. i currently have Rancho 9000 adjustables. they were very nice riding till i broke the adjustment knob off one of the rears. when that happens they default to the stiffest setting. i havent had much luck locating a replacement knob. and Rancho flat out wont call or e-mail me back. they have also rusted very quickly. my stabalizer has rusted quickly too.

so, i want your opinion on what you are running. i want a nice soft shock. i have a 3 in lift on a tj.

i have heard good things about Rough Countrys new 2.2 shocks. but im also concidering Bilstiens too.

I have 2.5" lift with the 2.2 shocks on my 06 TJ and I like them. I had one of the rear shocks start leaking fluid on me after about 3 months so I called the service dept. and they sent me two new ones. There were no warranty hassles and I didn't have to mail in the old one so it was simple, painless and cost me absolutely nothing. I cant give any advice on which one is better, I just know that I like the shocks and had an excellent customer service experience.

I've  had them(Rough Country) on my JK for right at a year now with no complaints. They are alittle stiffer than stock ones were.
Goodness this is a pricy hobby.

Just installed a set of Bilstein 5100 and love them.  Had Procomps and can really tell the improved ride on the road.  Haven't been off road yet.
ud is good

I've got Skyjacker shocks on my TJ and think the ride is pretty good. They're rusted really badly though.
I'd put something funny here, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway...

When you get your new shocks. Get yourself a spraycan of clear and some grease/wax remover. Wipe the shocks down with the remover then spray them with the clear once the remover has dried. This will keep them looking new for a long time. Then once a year or so clean them up and spray them again to keep them looking good.

You could try the Big Black Cock Shocks..... or BBCS for short. I hear they are pretty nice. I will run them in the future.
Here is a thread about them on Pirate when they first came out. They can be bought at polyperformance.com
