I was requested to have a permanent firearm discussion area. So therefore I have started this thread and will sticky it here in O.T.
First post. I'm debating trading my .270 Browning BAR with a 4 to 12 Leupold Vari XIII for an AR15.
-
well you can pick the ZOMBIES off alot farther out with the .270 but when you start gtting over ran that ar isnice to have
-
I like to use a 12 ga.doesn't reach out as far but i can hit what i shoota little 22 rifle does ok,.

That depends on the kind of AR it is. DPMS? Bushmaster? Rockriver? Colt? Home built set up? ... and what comes with it?
-
Well I haven't even listed it anywhere to try and generate any trades. So no details.
-
Well bottom line is... your Browning with those optics is worth a heck of a lot more than just any AR15.
-
Well thats kind of my way of thinking. If this one was a Belgium I'd hold on to it but it's not. I'd like an M4 clone decked out.
-
well in my experience and opinion DPMS sucks, Bushmaster is just ok, Colt and Rock River Arms are both fine pieces of weaponry; The RRA Entry Tactical is what I have (with a few extras) and I love it, never any problems, always faithful; it'll shoot any ammo you put in it, even handloads.

Don't forget, you can always support the local economy and go with CMMG www.cmmginc.com
They're based out of Fayette, MO
I've heard good things and they always have a large table at the gun shows here in town

Alex it seems like I've seen those before.... if I sell mine out right I'll be more picky with what I buy.

I have looked at those and they seem to be priced relay good as well. I built my last on Hess shorty upper dms lower had about $550 in when finished loved it.
-
Have you priced one recently, prices are going through the roof at the gun shops. I was going to order lower and upper receivers from Midway USA but they were out of them. They were out of stock with no backorder for many of the bullets I reload with.
-
yeah, everyone has been buying the crap out of everything...since about January of last year.
If your just now deciding to buy, I'm afraid your a day late and a dollar short, for now anyway. But don't fret.. it'll all work out and gun, ammo, reloading supplies and prices will come down and become readily available again when a Republican get's back in office.

That is AWESOME!!

I thought you guys would like that.

Ok guys for ccw 9mm,40s&w.or 45acp which one and why.
-
Ok guys for ccw 9mm,40s&w.or 45acp which one and why.
9mm is going to be easier to conceal and generally give your more rounds to pump into someone. Some manufacturers don't offer a .40 in a small version, but some do. A .40 packs a bit more punch and is what I use for concealed carry; but I am shy a couple rounds from what I would have if I carried a 9mm. .45 will pretty much blow a big hole in whatever you shoot, but you don't get as many rounds.. and the gun itself is going to be larger and harder to conceal. For Winter time conceal a .45 would be okay in my book, but in the summer when you wear less clothes... I think it would be too bulky.
Questions to ask yourself.
1. How much money do you have to spend? With guns you get what you pay for.
2. Where would you carry it? Go handle what your wanting and see if it is comfortable.
3. See if a friend has what you want and go shoot it first and make sure it's a good fit for you.
4. Great guns in my book and experience.. Glock, Sig, & Springfield Armory
-
I love my .45, but it is very bulky for conceal... I have a keltec .380 ( 3 A T ) which a pretty neat little gun... very easy to conceal. It fits in your back/front pocket very easy. The clip only holds six, but you can buy clip extensions for 1 or 3 extra rounds.
I also just bought a 9 x 18 made in Hungary. It's cool as hell... it's small and easy to conceal and shoots almost the same size bullet as the .380. I like it, I'll bring them this weekend and show ya.
-
it doesnt matter what gun you have when you cant get bullets for them...walmart branson west is sold out of every handgun ammo there is, and the-armory.com is sold out too.
-
Ok guys for ccw 9mm,40s&w.or 45acp which one and why.
I would rather have less rounds and a larger caliber than a smaller caliber with extra rounds. I don?t like the spay and pray technique, also it might be hard to explain to the police when they arrive why you shot someone 15 times in self defense. I would rather have the knock down power for my money it?s the Springfield 1911 in 45ACP. You can get 1911s in a smaller frame and you can always carry extra ammo. But hey that?s just my opinion do whatever seems best to you!
-
Ok guys I bought a Stoeger Cougar 8040 it's in 40 cal. 10 shot. It's a Beretta Cougar that made in Turkey with Beretta tooling.
Shot it today and it shoot great hardly any kick to it at all.

Unless you opted out of the NRA newsletters you should have got this today.
Thought it was relevant.
Missouri Attorney General Signs Amicus Brief Supporting Second Amendment Incorporation
Please Thank Attorney General Chris Koster!
Two-thirds of the nation?s attorneys general have filed an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to grant certiorari in the case of NRA v. Chicago and hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This bi-partisan group of 33 attorneys general, along with the Attorney General of California in a separate filing, agrees with the NRA?s position that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms, disagreeing with the decision recently issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Attorney General Koster was one of the many who agrees that the Second Amendment is a fundamental individual right and signed the amicus brief. Please call Attorney General Koster at (573) 751-3321 and thank him for standing up in support of the Second Amendment. You may also e-mail him at ag@ago.mo.gov.

Well, I finally decided it was time to pick up a new rifle. Put the deposit down on a new AK today. Pick it up in about a week and a half. TAPCO composite stock, grips and clip in Dark Earth color. Can't wait to go squeeze off a few hundred rounds.
-
You know I'm there!
-
Make it a club event :294_ready_to_rock:
-
Nice... I got a chance to squeeze a hundred through a former boss's AR15 last week and am now itching for one of my own. Every house should have one...
-
I just bought the new Ruger LCR for my ccw gun. I really like it so far. I had the LCP and sold it to get this because I wanted the knockdown power.
-
My friend bought one at the last gun show, I got to shoot it a couple weeks ago... nice little gun, I liked.

Great Christmas idea the gun lover in your family! :78:

.204 Ruger - What do you guys know about the .204 rifles? I'm hearing good things about it, and I'm thinking about a bolt action. I've heard good things about Savage (Model 12?) & CZ (which I know nothing about!). Let me hear what 'ya think!
-
I've been tossing around the idea of building/buying an AR.
Is there an advantage to building one. From the little bit of research I've done it seems pretty straight forward.
Thoughts?
-
I built mine. DTI(Wilson) matchgrade upper with a billet lower. The internal parts are Rock River Arms. EOTech and flip up rear sights. Pretty basic but it gets the job done. Go by Loftis they have a bunch of uppers and lowers. They are new and some used and priced reasonable.
-
Did you save any money building it? Any reason built it up vs. buying one?
-
paid 400 for the complete upper and 125 for the stripped lower. the billet lower is very nicely machined. the internals are rock river signal stage trigger i think it was around 75. 300 for the eotech, and 65 for the flip up rear sight. have less than 1200 in it once you figure grips, clips, single point sling. it all depends on want you want. ruger started making them and from the factory you get everything including piston driving recoil system, chrome barrel and bolt, flat top. all for between 1500 and 1600. for that kind of money you can also look at rock river, stag, smith and wesson, bushmaster, remington, and you might even find a colt. some of these will be cheaper than that ruger that's fully loaded. but its like anything else more options more money. Alex bought a cmmg, which in built here in missouri, they make a good gun and it is priced very reasonable. if you make sure not to use corrosive ammo you won't necessarily need a chrome lined barrel. there is allot of options, it all depends on want your wanting. a sniper rifle .308 or a m4 close quarters weapon. one thing about building you own is you can do it in stages, you are not spend a big wad of money all at one time. as far as putting it together, there is nothing to it very simple design.

Here is a link to a story about bible code being put put on military optics. I don't know what the big deal is, there are tons of products out there with religious reference on them. This won't deter me from buying one. I choose base on quality. performance, and try to buy American made, not because the manufacture religion.

I just aquired a Remington 870 express tactical shotgun with a folding stock installed on it. Im looking to purchase some additional accessories like the tactical heat shield and the tactical choke for it. Where is a good place in town to purchase/look at accessories at? This is my first gun and I got to do some shooting with it today and now im hooked!

Kelly's Police & Tactical (http://kelleyspts.com/)on West Sunshine or 417 Guns (http://www.417guns.com) on South Campbell and Plainview
Those are the only 2 places in Springfield worth going to. IMHO.
-
Thanks! Im going to go check them out today.

Thats pretty much what I want to do to mine. I'm in need of the 18.5" barrel, tactical choke, heat shield, and maybe a flashlight attatchment... Where did you get your stuff from?
-
Cedar Falls Tactical here in Park Hills.
-
Decided to just go ahead and sell this thing and put the money right back into my Pathfinder... Anyone want this? I just installed a 2 round extension and a flash light mount onto it today and gave it a real good cleaning. What are these things worth?
-
It got some upgrades. Some of the shells include 2 grenade rounds, 2 incendiary rounds, and another one that I was just told to try.

i just picked up a new Taurus 9mm yesterday. hope to go shoot it this week sometime. if anybody wants to go to Buesik (sp?) this week. let me know.
-
Went out to Bois d Arc today and shot a little. Finally got to shoot the Taurus PT 140 Pro .40 S&W I got at the last gun show. Also shot m .357 Magnum. I shot better with the Magnum.

How is that place? Never been out there, but have wanted to go sometime.

Which Taurus 9MM did you get, I'M looking for a C&C and can't decide what to get, I like some of the 380's but can't find any ammo!
-
I got the PT 609 PRO. I got it due to its size, and availability of ammo. The guys at gun slinger mentioned the .380, but said there was no ammo in springfield. I like to shoot a lot, so the cheaper 9mm rounds made sense.
-
The Andy Dalton Shooting Range at Bois d Arc was really nice. At $3.00/ hour it's well worth it. They provide the targets, rifle and pistol rests and spotting scopes. I can't believe I'd never been there before. I'll deffinately go back as soon as I get more ammo.
-
I CC the Taurus PT111 Pro and love it. They have a new one out that is really slim. If I were to buy one now, that would be the gun I would get. Loftis is the cheapest in town (that I have found) for these.
If you are set on the .380, you can always get ammo from cheaperthandirt.com. They are cheap on ammo, even with shipping.
-
I got my last 380 ammo from Cabellas online. Ended up less than $25/box for target ammo, which was way better than I found at any of the gun shows. That said, it would be much easier to find ammo if it was a 9MM.
-
I carry a .380 If you really want it just call Bass Pro everyday. They get it in weekly. I buy every box I find so if anyone needs some I pass it on for exactly what I give for it.
-
im going to try to get to a range tomorrow, if anybody wants to join me. i will probably be going in the morning around 830-900.
-
I just pick up a Kimber ultra carry II with crimson trace laser grips great cc gun only 25 ounces little big to carry in the summer.I carry a Kahr pm9 when the weather is warm doesn't hold very many but its so light (14 ounces) I forget I have it on most of the time. I really shouldnt change between them because they are 2 different types of guns .My kahr is just pointand pull the trigger where my kimber i have to take the safety off to fire it.
-
Just wonder if anybody still carry's a concealed weapon anymore? The fade has kinda wore off. Don't hear much about it anymore and since we have a liberal government to take care of us, not much need to carry?
-
Yep, always. I carry mine to protect myself *from* the liberal government.
-
I'm still saving for my .50 Desert Eagle.... figure I want to win through superior fire power!
-
always have one in arms reach.
-

Went into a shop today just to browse and left with this. This is my second 1911...After the first one its all I really care to shoot.
It's a S&W

Nice! I need to quit spending $ on the jeep so I can buy more guns.... ya that won't work.
-
Yes, I still carry Steve.
-
I find it interesting more states are going to legal open carry.
-
New Topic!!!
What is your favorite conceal and carry weapon?
For me it's a little Taurus TCP 380 auto, not really my first choice, but it's sure easy to conceal and comfortable!
-
colt 1911
-
Larry, Ryan I liked both of your choices someday I'm going to own one of those guns, Taurus also makes a 45 that looks like a colt 45 with great reviews, but nothing like owning the original!
Larry do you carry yours in a Iwb holster behind the back? what brand holster?
-
I carry a Springfield Armory XD 9mm Subcompact in a Crossbreed OWN holster.
-
Anyone going to the gun show this weekend?
-
Just a heads up rumor has it that there is a web site that shows the address on a map (like google earth) of everyone that has a CCW permit. I haven't seen it personally but have heard about it. Supposed to work like looking up sex offenders.
-
I was going, and I may go Sunday, but I'M pretty sure everything will be sky high and the crowd will be tremendous!
-

Yep, some dumbass newspaper in the NE posted a map of all registered gun owners in their area, there was a break in last week that has been linked to the map. If you ask me the newspaper is a bunch of f'n idiots for doing it. The editor is a registered gun owner and they conveniently left his name off of the list even though he lived in the area.
-
I was going, and I may go Sunday, but I'M pretty sure everything will be sky high and the crowd will be tremendous!
I was worried about skyhigh prices and crazy crowds but I thought I'd go at least and see what they had.
-
What gun did you have in mind?
-
Not sure yet, thinking about something small enough for CC and maybe something a bit larger.
-
Chris I was planning on it, but looks like I'll be travelling instead.
-
So what are some good reliable guns for the first time handgun owner?
-
Your going to get about as many opinions as there are guns!
-
Just figure out if you want revolver or semi-auto. If you like you can shoot one of each of mine before you go (but not for this gun show).
Also stick with big name brands in my opinion.
Springfield
Ruger
Tuarus
GLOCK
-
Your going to get about as many opinions as there are guns!
I figured I would, but just like spotters when I am on the trail there are only certain ones I will listen to and take advice from!

From what little I have shot I am not a big fan of the revolvers so I think I will be sticking to the semi-auto?s for now. I?ll keep those brands in mind, thanks!
-
Is this something you want to have the ability to carry or simply shoot/home defense?
Personally it comes down to grip comfort and fit for me. Which is why I prefer the full size GLOCK. I'm also a fan of the Springfield XD.
-

I am looking for both something to conceal and something for shooting/home defense, so I might get two guns, depends on price. I kind of figured it would come down to the feel of the gun in the hand, if it isn?t comfortable to hold I won?t shoot it much.
-
That's right Chris, check out the kel tec pf 9. I also really like the Taurus slim 9. There is a lot of good info on conceal and carry on you tube.
-
The Taurus 709 Slim is what I got for Anna, kinda small for a mans hand in my opinion.
-
May be small but comes down to ease of carry. My full size glock feels great but hard to conceal!
-
No point in carrying if you can't be accurate.
-
Aaron they are all small in your hands.
don't forget 1911's they do make smaller ones.
-
Kel tec is very accurate, but like any gun you have to practice!
-
Larry your right lol, and colt makes an awesome gun in a 45 as well as sig sauer $$$
-

I don't believe that can happen in MO. If I remember right MO statute keeps the CCW holders from public information. So people can't request that info by Sunshine Law.
-
Well right now the sunshine law expired! But its supposed th be fixed shortly!
-
Chris, Steve & I are planning on going Sunday , Aren't we Steve? Also Chris I love my SA XD subcompact.
-
Yes planning on Sunday gun show, maybe find last min. Deal???
-
I can't go Sunday, but I am going on Saturday. Maybe find some bargains :78: Also, I'll probably try to sell my 'AR-47'. Seems like as good a time as any to sell an EBR for a premium price.
-
Well did anyone bring anything home from the recent gun show??? I went Sunday with Rob Guinther just to look around and see how sky high the prices went up on guns and ammo--and they did sky rocket! There were a lot of AR'S for sale on tables as well as people walking around trying to cash in on their own AR'S.
I'm thinking now that a ban on AR'S isn't going to happen, I don't think there is enough support to pass a ban, I do think magazine limits and expanded background checks are going to happen. Anyone else have an opinion?
-
I picked up two, a Taurus P709 Slim and a Taurus P24/7 G2, they were not priced too high above retail, I really liked the Springfield XD?s but all the 9 MM ones were priced too high. I should have bought some ammo but didn?t think about it and everyone in town seems to be sold out at the moment and probably will be for some time.
I don?t know about the AR ban, there may not be enough support from the citizens but I doubt the average citizen?s opinion will be taken into account when that decision is made for us. I agree the mag limits will more than likely go in.
-
My buddy bought the Taurus slim a couple of weeks ago and I really like the way it looks and it has really good reviews also--bout the same as the 24/7 (good reviews)Just sucks now you can't hardly find ammo, and when you do, you pay dearly. I'M sure in a few months things will calm down and get more reasonable--I hope!
-
I don't seem to have any issue finding ammo, but then again 45ACP and 44 mag aren't the common calibers.
-
Yeah I noticed that 44 and 45 are pretty plentiful as well as 38. I think right now you just have to hit Bass Pro about everyday, and Walmart early in the morning, and don't forget MC sports @ the mall
-
i was told earlier this evening that MC Sports gets their shipments in on Tuesday mornings & that they are selling out about as fast as they get it just like everyone else.

I bought a 'Slim 9' a few years ago, because I was hating my Kahr PM9. I like & trust the Taurus over the Kahr, at about half the price! After about 400 rounds & 1,000 dry fires, the Kahr has gotten a lot more dependable, but the Taurus was reliable right out of the box.
It makes for a good, inexpensive, and reliable compact CCW weapon in my opinion.
-
FWIW, I saw a Taurus slim 9 on gunlistings.org this morning for $299 (like new). Not a bad price given the present pricing climate!
-
That's what my buddy paid for his new right after Christmas @ MC Sports, they do price match if you can find em!
-
I caught Anna's on sale in late Nov for $289 NIB.
-
Hey guys - anyone know of a pistol range around here that allows steel-case ammo? I bought 200 rounds of the Tulammo online and then found out that Sounds of Freedom doesn't allow it (and they would only sell me one box of 9mm).
Busiek's "short" range isn't ideal for pistols...at least not until I dial this one in 8)

I'm confused. Why would they care if it is brass or steel cased (if you are talking about the 'brass' and not the projectile). As to your question, I don't think Bass Pro cares what rounds you shoot as long as they are pistol calibers. That's where I go because it's close to home, but they are also really nice to deal with at the range.
-
They dont care about the casing. Its the steel ammo. They say that it dents their carriers.a lot of them assume steel case ammo has steel cores.
-

This - basically, they told me that some of them have steel in them which can damage/spark/etc. So they have a no steel case ammo policy across the board.
-
Not indoor but a nice range for the money:
http://mdc.mo.gov/regions/southwest/andy-dalton-shooting-range
-
thanks, I haven't been out there before, but it looks like a good setup
-
Pleasant Hope Conservation area also has a single pistol range.
I've also heard the indoor ranges don't want steel casing, because the pick up the brass and resell it, they don't want to have to try to also sort out the steel.
-
Speaking of steel core ammo, here is my latest build that loves the sling the steel core stuff!
