hit the starter with something...preferabbly a hammer...give it a couple wacks and see if it will pop out when you turn the key

it probably means that the starter is going bad...or that it is just so cold that it iced up inside from the puddle....glad it started!!

Yeah mine has done the same thing the last couple of mornings, the starter i guess isnt throwing out. Last night i parked in my heated garage and the went to start it in the morning and it started just like normal. This cold sucks, I wish it would snow though  :327_xmas_snowman:

yeah. the cold would be alot more bearable if there was about a foot of snow on the ground!

I wasn't sure my powerstroke was going to start this morning... hate not being able to plug it in.

If you get the whining sound and the motor doesn't turn over it is the bendix in the starter.  It doesn't mean the whole thing has to replaced.  You can replace the bendix, if they sell the parts.  I used to have to rebuild mine all the time when mud got in them.  The part was like 10 bucks or so.  I haven't checked to see if O'Reilly's still sells just the bendix.
