First year of 29 spline 8.25?

I have a 1996 XJ with an 8.25 and didn't know if it had the 27 or 29 spline version?I haven't tore it down yet,but I read somewhere that 1995 was last year for 27 spline.Is this true?

From what I've read you could have either one.  They made the switch around then and there wasn't really a hard date that they switched.  I have a 29 spline if you end up having the 27 and want to upgrade.

My info shows:
1997-00 as 29 spline
1996 and older as 27 spline

Now that I have done more research,1996 seems to be a transition year with some 27 and 29 splines with 1997 and up being ALL 29 spline. Thanks guys. :)
