Been out in the elements so it needed some new paint!

I plan to coat the axle in black paint, once i put a 2nd coat of primer on.
Anybody recommend a good paint for this?
-
Rustoleum safety yellow seems to stick the best for 8.25s for some reason... Must be something in the yellow?
-
Yellow? Haha i don't want an yellow axle, I was thinking black hammered...
-
Seems to be some pink covers rolling around lately!
Make sure you keep track of shims if you remove anything. Will save you a life time when setting up the axle.
-
Ok thats good info to know! I have also been labeling everything i have been taking off. I have not got to the ring and pinion yet.
Been looking at 4ws for Gears, what would you recommend Aaron? Yukon or Superior?

I use hammered black, brush on. One quart has painted two axles and a variety of other items. Cheaper than spray cans IMO.

Aren't there side adjuster on this axle? I know the pinion still has shims for depth, and I thought preload was through a crush sleeve? Correct?
-
Ok ill look into the roll on paint, is it harder to apply around tight areas tho?

It can be, but it's not bad.
-
ok kool ill look into that

Honestly Yukon or Superior are both good gears. There are several companies out there to avoid but neither of those is on that list.
I have done an 8.25 so can't swear how you set pinion preload.
-
Ok I was leaning towards superior gears. They are cheaper then Yukon, just want something that will last and are quite.
-
They are about the same to be honest in my opinion. Either setup right will last a long time and be quiet.
-
Looks good Caleb. You might check into implement paint at one of the farm stores. It's thicker and will cover many imperfections.

Imperfections? That thing was pristine when it changed hands.
-
Are you going to show it or wheel it? Dang, just slap some black paint on there and go. Gonna get scratched up anyway...
-
I wheel my Rig. Just need some paint that will hold up, and keep the rust off from the elements. I know it will be scratched that is what its there for 8)
-
Just any black paint will really work.. If you are really concerned about scrating it up just rhino line it or throw some por or similar product on it. Not sure why a hammered paint finish would matter, its an 8.25, if it was a spider trax rearend maybe or something fancy. But just paint it black. Plenty of coats of 99cent rattle can paint will work just fine.
-
Yeah that is what im planing on, I know its nothing nice but i do want the paint to last keeps it in good shape, and will allow the axle to last longer.

I said implement, not impotent paint. :P They use it on tractors and farm equipment, because it DOES hold up well; sure you can use regular rattle can paint and it'll be just fine... but you'll be back repainting it much sooner.
-
Haha :P
-
Its not like its gunna rust through the tubes or the pumpkin(atleast not in our lifetime). Just dosent look good. Paint or no paint it operates the same. >:D
-
I know lol
Anyways enough of the paint subject :107: haha
Im going to order superior gears within the week probably from 4ws. I need to go up there and talk to them. Also my 3 link kit should be here tomorrow 8)
-
Come on in, one of us will answer your questions.
Oh and axles can rust pretty bad in just a few years it would seem from my recent experience.
-
Ok, you guys open at 8 or 9 i don't remember?
-
9 but we're usually here earlier.
-
Ok i have to be at work at 9.
-
Quick Peek, got dark so didn't get much pics... Will tomorrow tho
