need anyone that knows about camaro engines
« on: 09/22/08 - 02:37AM »
my 98 camaro has been missing for some time now and i dont have the money to take it to reliable chevy to get it fixed at the moment. i replaced the distributor, spark plugs and wires and it keeps showing the 5th cylinder missing and you can tell when you drive it. if anyone knows anything about this please contact me.

Sounds like you have a bad coil to me.  98's have coil packs, 1 coil per 2 cylinders.  Replace the coil that 5 is connected to and it will be fine again.

Have you checked the plug and plug wire?  If the coil pack is good and the voltage going to it is good then the only other thing (besides something internal) is the plug wire and plug.

My .02.
I cut sheetmetal for free.  It's fixing it that get's expensive.

Sounds like the spark controller is going south then, if you have replaced plugs, wires, and the coil.  I don't think that year has a distributor, does it?

The distributor should be on the back of the intake if it had one...  What does it look like where you plug in the spark plug wires?  Is it round or square?  If it is round, that is the distributor.

I would check the cap and rotor on the distributor to see of you have a bad contact inside.
