Cass, AR run Oct. 23- 26
« on: 08/26/08 - 02:47PM »
I know some people are planning on attending Rocktoberfest this year, but I thought I'd offer up an alternative. I've attended Rocktoberfest for 8 years now and it is a fun time, I just wanted to try something different this year.

Instead of running down to Cass for Rocktoberfest a group of us are going to go down the weekend before. Since most of us would rather be out on the trails instead of running around chasing the big rigs and watching them break we've decided to do our own thing.

We are posting and emailing everyone and seeing who would be interesting in going down and camping the weekend of October 25 -26. Myself and a couple others are going down that Thursday the 23rd and you are more than welcome to come any of those days. Right now we have a group of 6 rigs going so far. If you would please, post or email me back and let me know if you would be interested in coming down and running some trails with us. Honestly, most of us are still on 33s or 35s so we're not going to run the monster hard 5 rated trails. I personally just like a nice and easy 3 or 4 with some things here and there to climb. Afterall, my Rubicon is still a daily driver

Thanks,
Brad

Hey Brad, how much does Byrd's charge for camping and wheeling?

Rocktoberfest is $40.00 for members $65.00 non members plus $50.00 if you want to compete.

Byrd's fees are $10.00 per day for wheeling $9.00 per day per person for camping for electric sites a little less for non electric...  If you pay to enter an event they don,t charge the $10.00 per day wheeling fee...  http://www.byrdsadventurecenter.com/

Fyi,  Brad has numbers wrong Rocktoberfest is $40.00 for members $65.00 non members plus $50.00 if you want to compete.

Last year we paid at least $80 I know for a fact. I wasn't bashing on Rocktoberfest, I just wanted to go down and have fun without all the stuff that comes with that weekend. I've been attending for years, but now that I am getting to be a grumpy old fart I enjoy a little peace and quiet when I camp  :102:

Looks like you are bashing to me and still bashing. Why can't you have a trail run without casting a dark cloud over a great event that raises money for charities? You could have easily announced your run without mentioning Rocktoberfest let alone bashing it!

Whatever dude!! I've been attending for years. There was no dark cloud cast my friend. If you want to post something about the upcoming Rocktoberfest then do so. I won't say a word. I was just saying that if you wanted to do a trail run instead of spending the money for spectating then come down with us. No offense intended towards Rockcrawlers or Rocktoberfest. Take a Xanax and chill :33:

Rocktoberfest is a great event, no doubt. I've been 8 years in a row and my kids love to see the big rigs. I would love to attend this year but because of a great of bills hitting our family this year we've decided to go the weekend before just to save some cash. If you've never been to Rocktoberfest then I suggest you attend some year.

For those that want to go the weekend before, I will coordinate with all the others here in town (Bentonville) and set up a time and place to meet before we go down. Stay tuned...

2 Weeks to go... I just called Byrd's campground and they gave me the following info:

Camping = $6 per person per night
Trail use = $10 per vehicle for the entire weekend

Myself and a couple of other guys are heading down Thursday...FYI. I may camp at Byrds or maybe down the road at Redding campgrounds. More than likely we'll be at Byrds.

I just wanted to mention to everyone that I, in no way shape or form, want to lead all the trail rides. I honestly have only been on a couple trails through the Nat'l Forest. Most of what I've done is across from Byrds. So if any one wants to lead a trail for the day or even just for a couple of hours I fully invite you to. I really just started this thing up to spend a little time in the Jeep with my son. So the more time we spend shiny side up the better  :P

Guys, if anyone has a chain saw or other tools needed for tree removal please bring them. I've been told by members of Rockcrawlers4x4 that there are some trees blocking quite a few of the trails. We may need to cut those out in order to pass.

Thanks,
Brad
