42re vs aw4

Are there any distinguishing features that I can look for that would let me know which tranny is in my 93 zj w/ 4.0 it was manufatured in may 93 they put both of them in the 93's first part was the aw4 that last part was 42re I would like to know which one I have

The easiest way is to look on the shift bezel.  if it reads P R N D 2 1 then it is a AsainWarner 42re; if it reads P R N D and the 1-2 are together then it is the Toyota AW4.  Hope that helps.

Anytime you have a ? about the Grands, especially the ZJ, let me know.  I have researched the crud out of them.  I usually just check the for sale or events section so just send me a PM or post a ? over at www.Brushbeaters.com  I am on there at least once a day.
