MOROC event 1 report

MOROC?s season opener was a great start to a great season.  The weather stayed in the mid 70's all weekend long and only had about an hours worth of a hard rain on Saturday.  Seemed to be enough action to keep all the spectators there during the rain.  The ones that did leave, went to town to buy rain suites and came back to watch more action.  On Sunday, the weather was absolutely perfect.

There were 12 courses set-up for this event, forcing every team to complete 10 courses for the weekend.  Each course had a seven (7) minute time limit.  Teams had to race against the clock over some very challenging obstacles.  With damp/wet courses, teams faced many challenges at this event.  There were several wicked steep inclines where teams were forced to run full throttle assaults up to and on the hillsides while still being unable to successfully climb to the top.  Several spotters had to exit the vehicles to hook up and operate the winch, as a last resort to successfully completing the obstacles.  The teams who did make the hill climbs often got airborne at the top or at least some point on the way up.  There were also many courses that slowed down teams to run very tight and technical courses. The technical courses gave those running smaller engines and smaller tires a chance to still win.  It wasn't uncommon to see tires lifting, hearing parts breaking and feeling the same emotions as the teams felt.  You could hear the spectators along the hillsides with the ooohs and ahhhs and the loud cheering after some awesome saves.   There were a couple rollovers this weekend as a result of improper tire placement and too much speed over some of the technical obstacles.

Many thanks go to all the teams for their new or continuous support, to the hundreds of spectators who showed, to the judges, staff, parking attendants, recovery, and officials for all their hard work, to the media who got awesome footage from the event, and especially to the owners and staff of SMORR: Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch.  The park did an excellent job cutting and clearing all the newly marked courses.  They burned all they cut and much more to make spectator and media visibility top notch.  The park is definitely about promoting safe and environmentally friendly events.  SMORR is one of the cleanest and largest offroad parks in the Midwest. Thanks to SMORR, each course was very spectator friendly with great parking and close walking distances to spectator areas.  Spectator visibility was 100% improvement over last year?s locations.
