Any recommendations on a hoist for my hardtop?  I have a '06 unlimited and need to get one for the garage.

I had researched them at one time and decided you could make your own for a whole lot less money. When I was thinking of getting one I decided on an automatic instead of the manual...

Instead of doing all that.. I just bug my neighbor twice a year... early spring hard top comes off and soft goes on... vise-versa in late fall.

Here is an article to making your own ...

Another make your own.. little more elaborate.

If you have money to blow.. there are plenty of places will to take it from you.. here is one such place.

I made one a while back.  don't remember how much it cost in materials, but it wasn't too much.  Just some pullys, a harbor freight hand winch, some rope, chain, and lumber.

I only use the rope and hand winch to lift the top.  when it's stored for the summer, it's supported by the chain and lumber.  Probably not necessary, but it makes me feel a little better when I park the jeep under it

alright.. now I gotta make one too. My hardtop sits atop 2x4's on the garage floor... taking up all kinds of space. I'm just gonna go ahead and make one also... will post up pics afterwards. I was worried before about it hanging out in the garage with my kids running around and getting into stuff... and of course the Jeep the under it...   .. derf1184 your idea with the chains and 2x4's is great and would make me feel pretty good about it. I like it and will probably just do something similiar.. hope you don't have a patent on it.

I didn't do the hoist with pulleys, but did do the 2x4 and chain thing hanging from the ceiling of the garage.  Just had a few buds help me lift it up there.

I'd put something funny here, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway...

Here is mine that I just made, and yes I am head engineer for the Loyal Order of the Crimson Nape Society of Engineers. (wonder how many of you will get that?)

A little threaded pipe, a T fitting, some heavy duty bicycle hooks, some rope, and a deer hoist, (that makes it more redneck) and voila, you have a hard top hoist. Once we get moved I will put it in the garage, but for now a tree limb will suffice. (again, that make it more redneck)

Once in a while that perfect part rolls around that the redneck craftsman sees and goes, "this would be just perfect as a ________."
