88 xj Dana 44
« on: 02/17/12 - 05:03PM »
I getting it tonight for my 95yj. How hard will it
Be to put it in? What will I need as far as money
And parts? Any ideas? Thanks Kevin.

Oh ya I paid 150.00 for it. Was it a good deal?
I think so. I'm meeting him at St Johns at 6 pm.
If anyone wants to look at it for me to make sure
I'm not getting a bad deal. I don't know how to identify
What a 44 even looks like... :(
840-9486 is my number

If it's an XJ 44 that's not a bad deal.  However it's not a bolt in by any means.  I can go through all your options with it in person much easier than on here.

Print the pic above off and take it with you.  Make sure the cover matches DANA 44 in the pic.  Not 8.25 or dana 35!

With this as a reference you should be fine.

Can I send a pic to anyone to look at this and tell
Me what they think it is? It doesn't look exactly
Like a 44 or 35? But closer to a 35.
I think I just got screwed!!  :(

Does it look like an 8.25?  Those are the only 3 axles under XJ's.

It had some looks of both. I'm pretty sure it's a 35.
If your home I could swing by to show you.

I'm home if you want to swing by before you undo the deal.

Undid the deal at noon. I took it by my mechanic
And it was a 35.

you may want to start checking out the Ford 8.8 rear axle for your swap, with rear disc brakes. Plenty of info on Jeep forums and pretty low cost.
