« on: 03/14/07 - 04:51PM »
I have a 97 tj...What should the oil pressure run at under normal use? Mine  runs 40lbs driveing and drops down at stops to about 20? Good or Bad and if Bad how much is the fix? Can I fix this myself?

That's not bad, our '01 runs just a little above those figures with about 116k miles.  Has it dropped a lot, all at once, does it knock or ping, when was the last oil change, who did it, and what weight oil did you put in?  It could be just as minor a thing as the sending unit going bad.  Easy fix, about $10 & 10 mins. work.

Most vehicles out there do that once they get a few miles on them.

You only need like 7psi to maintain your bearings

I did the oil change,3000 miles, 10w30.I have about 80k. the gage has been like that all along. I would like to be sure it is not something serious.

LOL, then don't sweat it, too much pressure will blow the oil out of the gaskets, anyways.  If you're uncomfortable with that, drop 10-40 in during the summer months, but if i was you i'd just stick with 10-30 and run it.

and you will have a pressure difference from driving to idle. It's with all vehicles less at idle your motor rev's high.
