When does [35+(33 x 4)]-35 = 44 ?
« on: 09/30/06 - 10:05PM »
When you attempt a WAY too tough trail and get wheel hop.  I realize that:

But i haven't gotten it apart, yet, and will most likely have to actually pay for this to be done in time for the 4xfest.  Pics will follow monday or tuesday.

Well you must be saying this but I could be wrong (as a medafor speaking)

" [35+(33 x 4)]-35 = 44 "

"33 x 4" , is your tires size, the "35+" was your rear before, the "-35" is your rear now and the "= 44 " what your going to put in its place.

how a came to that is cuz the true answer to your math is " 132 "
not "44"

But I can Be Wrong

We have a winner.  The turdy-five is toast, and hopefully the 44 that's been taking up floor space in my garage will be installed soon (this week, i hope), in time for the weekend clean-up, and the 4xfest.

And yes, it was ugly, and a trail i had absolutely no business attempting, but i "almost made it" when it blew out.  It was able to limp back to the top, and back into it's stall at home, though.

well dick you could have help with a build Saturday and be we would not be talking like this. But then you would not have reason to rush the 44 install either. And the experience what is that worth?

If you can center the axle and set the pinion rotation, mark your perches and bring the axle over I will weld the perches on for you.  Then all you have to do is hook up the brakes.  I don't know if the gearing is right, tho.  If it is just swapping it out - that is really a one day job.
I cut sheetmetal for free.  It's fixing it that get's expensive.

If brad says it's cool I can even trailer the whole rig over to his house for you so we make sure to get pinion angle and what not correct.

Hope you had fun Dick.

The 44 is from an '89 metric ton Comanche.  It is already set for SUA & all the brakes & lines, etc are there, but the WMS center to center is 1 inch off.  The MJ is 57" and the YJ is 58", so both perches have to come off & move 1/2", but with the lift, i need the pinion angle changed.  I am hoping it can be done so as to eliminate the dirt scoop drop, but i'm not getting too excited, yet.  The gearing is different, but i have the matching R&P for the 30 in front, so i just have to pay for 1 diff. set-up.  If i have to do much to the brakes, i think i'm just going to go with a disc conversion.  They looked good 6 months ago when i got the 44, though.

This was something i was hoping to put off until after the first of the year, but oh well.  At least the Jeep gods were able to let me buy the replacement axle and have it on hand for when it did break.

I don't think Carl can make that statement after this weekend.  I seem to remember hearing about some carnage from his stock components.
