Hey guys - long time no see.  Glad to see the club is still doing good.

I am looking for some advice.  I bought a 83 Scrambler that is just a tub, frame and axles.  I want to fix it up as a daily driver and mild off roading.
My first big decision is drive train.  I want fuel injection and automatic.
Here are some of my thoughts
258 - strong and cheap (fewer mods), but why not a V8?  Can put on aftermarket FI
360 - stay AMC, has some quirks but a nice big motor.  Also aftermarket FI. Not very common
350 - most popular motor ever? Too common
4.3L - find wrecked blazer, pull the whole drive train

Vortec 4.3, all the power you need and great steet ability.  Not to mention vortecs are like 5 wire hook ups.  

Couple it with NV3550 or 4L60E and have nice power for playing and the street.

I've got a 304 I'll sell you, even throw in a CJ5 tub, frame and axles...  I'll just trade you for the old TJ and we'll call it even.

I like the idea of staying with the Jeep heritage motor of some sorts though.  Maybe put in a 4.7 stroker like Derek had for a while with the tf999/D300 or whatever.

id go the 4.3 vortec and the 4l60e

and i just happen to have one id sell also.

the motor has 80k on it and ran excellent and is complete with harness and computer and all.  the 4l60e is freshly rebuilt and has zero miles on it.

i was going to put this i my toy fj40, but went v8 and 60s instead.

id make you a great deal on this

it would be an easy swap in, and i could make you some nice motor mounts that use the factory mounts from chevy.

 congrats on the 8 man. go with the 4.3  John is doing 5.3 now and it would give a reason to come hang out for a weekend. and you know the mild wheeling once you get some power to it will turn into moderate to hard wheeling.

Great to hear from you guys.  I really miss talkin and wheelin with you.  There is absolutely nowhere to go close by up here and no one to trade jeep stories with.   :beerchug:  I've lived in a few different places, but I have to say Springfield was the best and you guys were a big part of it.  

Keep the ideas coming.  I like the 4.3.  Junkyard, pm me with some more details on your set-up.  I also like the 360 or 318 idea.   I am researching how to wire it up.  I plan on keeping the dana 30 front, so maybe the 4.3 will keep the axle together longer.

I will post up some pictures of the project when I get it started.  Right now the jeep is stored in a barn in Illinois because I am not ready to start on it yet.  It has to warm up some first - even with an insulated garage it is cold when it gets down to -15!
I think a good way to break this vehicle in would be a raod trip to the Ozarks!
