New, and yet old

New to the board and living east of Jane, MO

My wife and split time between here and northern Illinois where we also have a house which we have been trying to sell for the past two years.

We are on our fourth Wrangler in the last five years. We had a 2010 JKU Sahara that was so underpowered that we only kept it a year. Traveled around the country pulling a camper with an F150 and then bought a 2006 TJ just so we still had a Wrangler. Then, we sold the TJ at a profit two years ago and bought a 2014 JK. She is into form so we got a two door. I put up with that for a rear or so and then we traded it in this past May for 2015 JKU Sport in "tank". I was having it raised two inches by 4W Concepts in Bentonville when my wife broke her ankle while walking our two Jack Russells. They stayed and protected her but only because she held on to the leashes.

I bought an Army M1101 trailer in March. The M1101 was made for the Humvee and is a one ton trailer. It currently still has the 37" run flat tires on it but I may change those out. The only reason I haven't is because she thinks they look really cool.

It's all about that "form" thing again.

We will slowly turn both the Wrangler and trailer into an expedition rig. We have spent a lot of time out west camping in parks and now want to do it off road.

I have retired as a cop, as a soldier and also as a Fed employee. I have taught police firearms training since 1980 and I am also an NRA pistol instructor and an Illinois concealed carry instructor. In the Army, I first qualified as a helicopter crew chief and spent 32 months in Vietnam as a helicopter gunship crew chief/door gunner. Then came home, became a cop and in 1987, I retired early as the Chief of a small town in Illinois and went back on active duty at age 40.

That was really hard.

In 1997, as 1SG of a light Infantry company, I was badly injured in a training accident and after a series of surgeries was med retired in 1999. A couple of months later, I started work as a military documents specialist wit the US dept of Veterans Affairs. In 20078, I was pretty fed up with VA management, paid all my military time into the Fed employee retirement system and retired for the last time.

Now I buy guns, new stuff for the Wrangler (and now the trailer) and lots of toys (I have a TRACTOR now!) and other things to prevent my son from inheriting any cash that I may still have.

If anyone wants to know how PlanetGov operates and how to buy equipment there (where I got the M1101) or wants to see the trailer, drop me a note.  I will be asking lots of questions about how to make changes to the Wrangler and what options are best or which ones to stay away from.
