Gas Tank Skid
« on: 12/10/07 - 11:59PM »
I had some extra sheet left over from my rock rails so I decided I needed a gas tank skid, so here goes.
Start with a template.

Measure and cut some more pieces.

Tack it all together and test fit.

Burn it home and prep for paint.

Primer and paint.

In order to attach this thing to the "frame" I need to get some nuts in the rail.  You can buy a nut strip from Jeep, but I'm too cheap for that.  I didn't care what this piece looked like since you won't see it.  There is a nut strip from the factory on the passenger side so I only had to make one.

This is where is slides in the frame rails.

Finally, bolt it all up.

Here is how it looks from the front.

Let me hear any of your questions, comments, or concerns.
On to the next project...

So what is the next project?  That toyota 8" we were talking about?

Nice work by the way man, glad to see an XJ getting something done to it.

Thanks guys.
The next project could be anything right now, but I'm looking real hard at an axle/gear/locker upgrade of some sort, stock gears suck.
I'll start a new thread about that.
