Here We Go...Obama and the Dems take OUR GUNS!
« on: 02/17/09 - 01:56AM »
It's started: Remember Obama's take on guns.

Here they come, ready or not. Feel the water getting warmer?

Are you ready for the House Bill titled 'HR 45, Blair Holt
Licensing and Record Act of 2009'. It will make it illegal to own a
firearm unless it is registered with the database in  Washington  D.C.
As a gun owner you will have to be finger printed, you will be required
to provide your DL#, SS#, you must maintain a valid address at all
times, submit to mental and physical health
records being put on file, you will also be required to file any address
changes and any ownership changes even if a private sale. Each update
will cost $25 and if you fail to comply you will lose your right to own
firearms. This bill and its language mirror almost completely one
defeated last year in the House of Representatives by soon to be Chief
of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Will we the citizenry be as lucky this time?

Remember that laws only apply to those who obey them. Criminals by
definition and nature do not abide by laws. New laws and restrictions
only apply to the law abiding citizen and are not written with the
criminal in mind. With guns, it is not about having laws on the books to
prosecute individuals, it is about taking guns away from the people so that no one has them in the first place.
One last item to note, when assuming power and creating a facist state,
Hitler was a proponent of strong gun laws because a disarmed populace
was much easier to control than an armed one. The kings of old also
outlawed weapons of any kind in any region that they conquered to quell
the ability of the citizens to up rise against them.

The Founding Fathers of this nation understood all of the above
and because of this they included the second amendment in the
constitution. In fact, they knew that at some point in every society's
life span that the need for the population to arise came about. To this
end they made the right to keep and bear arms against a tyrannical state
an absolute right that could not be revoked.
They did this because the first thing tyrants and despots do is to
remove a population's right to defend themselves When this is done, the
tyrants have no problem with the destruction of society as we know it.

The following is a summary of the bill as provided by the
Congressional Research Service. If you read the whole bill, you'll find
it will effectively preclude the ownership of ANY firearms by
law-abiding people unless licensed by the Attorney General. How long do
you think THAT would take??
     Congressional Research Service Summary
The following summary was written by the Congressional Research
Service, a well-respected nonpartisan arm of the Library of Congress.
GovTrack did not write and has no control over these summaries.
     1/6/2009--Introduced.
Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 -
Amends the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act to prohibit a person
from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm
license under this Act or a state system certified under this Act and
such license has not been invalidated or revoked. Prescribes license
application, issuance, and renewal requirements.
Prohibits transferring or receiving a qualifying firearm unless
the recipient presents a valid firearms license, the license is
verified, and the dealer records a tracking authorization number.
Prescribes firearms transfer reporting and record keeping requirements.
Directs the Attorney General to establish and maintain a federal record
of sale system.

Prohibits: (1) transferring a firearm to any person other than a
licensee, unless the transfer is processed through a licensed dealer in
accordance with national instant criminal background check system
requirements, with exceptions;

(2) a licensed manufacturer or dealer from failing to comply with
reporting and record keeping requirements of this Act;

(3) failing to report the loss or theft of the firearm to the Attorney
General within 72 hours;

(4) failing to report to the Attorney General an address change within
60 days; or

(5) keeping a loaded firearm, or an unloaded firearm and ammunition for
the firearm, knowingly or recklessly disregarding the risk that a child
is capable of gaining access, if a child uses the firearm and causes
death or serious bodily injury.
Prescribes criminal penalties for violations of firearms
provisions covered by this Act.
Directs the Attorney General to: (1) establish and maintain a
firearm injury information clearinghouse; (2) conduct continuing studies
and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries; and (3)
collect and maintain current production and sales figures of each
licensed manufacturer.        Authorizes the Attorney General to certify
state firearm licensing or record of sale systems.

You can follow the sequence as it already happened in Canada and the UK.
First the government needs to register the guns so they will know where
to find them.  Next they took them away (including shotguns, etc.).
Also remember the gentleman in England that failed to register his
shotgun and when three gentlemen came into his house and attached and
attempted to rob him he fired killing two and wounding the third.  He
was sentence to 30 years in prison for protecting his own life (because
he used an un-registered weapon).

The once proud and fiercely independent Brits lost the ability of self-defense layer by layer as regulations abounded. The vast majority of them were lulled to sleep by the drone of politicians insisting that they "weren't going to take away their guns entirely," or that it was "for your own good," or "for the children."

Concerns about this gradual encroachment on individual rights were met with assurances: "Don't worry, you won't lose your hunting rights, we're just regulating 'bad' guns, controlling 'bad' criminals, protecting your children, preventing crime, promoting safety, etc."  Until at the last, all those guns, all those rights and nearly all those hunting privileges are gone.

First it was simple registration, then mandatory registration, mandatory storage at "sporting clubs," and government-controlled hours of access and locks, then even more restrictive laws on movement, possession, purchasing, ammunition, storage, use, ranges, types of firearms, club membership requirements, government control of processes, fees, buy-back purchases, limitations or bans on manufacture, importation, and slowly, slice by thin slice, the piecemeal removal of each layer. Eventually each type of gun fell to the near total confiscatory outlawing and roundup of pistols, semi automatic rifles, and eventually shotguns and sporting firearms. Now even knives are being confiscated and banned.

As it's been said before if your not a member of a large anti-legislation group like the NRA please join.  You can write your congressman etc, but having our own political pushers in DC will likely be our best bet.

Join the NRA; they are our biggest advocate against this kind of BS.

You can feel at ease about the stimulus got this in an NRA alert:

Quote

Rumors and the Economic Stimulus Bill:  We have been hearing many rumors, and receiving many inquiries, about "buried" provisions in the federal economic stimulus bill that would negatively affect our Second Amendment rights.  People have claimed the bill would designate interstate highways as national parks, or impose ammunition encoding and new ammunition taxes.  Fortunately, and contrary to what you may have heard, there are no provisions in this bill prohibiting firearms or ammunition anywhere, or for anyone.

In reality, our freedom has already been lost.  We have some insignificant freedoms remaining, but we are no longer in control of our own destinies.  There are many laws that are awaiting a radically socialist judge to interpret them to the best interests of the socialists.  Obama is the most dangerous socialist at this point in time.

Republicans are very little better than Democrats, if any.  Medicare Part D was rhe result of Republican legislation and it has been (and will continue to be) a debilitating burden for my wife and me.  Her dementia, macular degeneration, high blood pressure and ambulatory problems cannot be allowed to prevent me from going to work.  I do not have regular hours to be on a job, but many hours each week are required for working.  She must be left alone while I work.

Multiple trips to the offices of Jim Talent, Kit Bond and Roy Blunt with good, solid documentation to demonstrate the distress they caused resulted in no letters, no phone calls and definitely no help.  Politicians are in office only to assist the ones who will pay them for providing a conduit to siphon off our money.

The freedoms we have at this point will disappear much more rapidly when they destroy the second amendment with legislation such as this.  The NRA is one of the very best ways to prevent ... No, make that delay ... the loss of our right to bear arms.

And that's ... Just my opinion!

from snoops

Proponents of the Blair Holt bill maintain that it is not an attempt to ban or otherwise infringe on the constitutional right to own or carry guns; it would simply establish a system for registering and tracking the ownership of guns that are used illegally, similar to the system currently used for automobiles. Opponents of the bill maintain that it "focuses on the instruments of crime rather than on the criminals who use the instruments," and that, rather than targeting the criminal element, it "would simply further burden law-abiding people."

As was the 2007 version of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act, the current version has been referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, and the fact that the bill does not have even a single co-sponsor makes it unlikely that it will ever be brought to a vote before Congress, much less passed. ESPN Outdoors correspondent Wade Bourne summed up the bill's chances of passage thusly:
So, how likely is the Blair Holt bill's chance for passage? Pro-gun activists are vigilant but don't seem overly worried about it. They point out that the bill's failure to attract co-sponsors is an indication of a lack of enthusiasm for it among other congressmen. They feel it is too far-reaching and repressive of gun owners' rights to merit serious consideration by a majority of Congress.

Lawrence Keane of the NSSF [National Shooting Sports Foundation] states, "If this bill passes, Democrats would likely lose (control of) their chamber in upcoming mid-term elections (2010). The leadership in the House knows that." Keane says some 80 million-plus U.S. citizens own firearms, representing nearly half the households in the nation. He believes that House Democrats will allow the Blair Holt bill to die in subcommittee rather than risk the ire of so many pro-gun voters.

those who are willing to work and give to those who would not"
